A place where I share what I’m building, what I’m exploring, and the things that keep me curious.

Some of it makes sense. Some of it probably doesn’t (yet).

Coffee first. Answers later.

Who am I

Hey, I'm Kris šŸ‘‹

Proud dad of two amazing daughters, Emilia and Elena, who keep life equal parts chaotic and wonderful.

I have a soft spot for a really good cup of coffee and puzzles that seem like a great idea right up until the moment they don't, and then I'm too invested to quit.

I enjoy figuring things out, whether it's solving a challenge, going for a walk to clear my head, or just overthinking something until it suddenly makes perfect sense.

Currently also considering a new hobby, still in the "this sounds like a great idea" phase, so we'll see where that goes.

This space is a bit of a mix of who I am: curious, slightly stubborn when it comes to solving things, and always up for something that makes life just a little more interesting.

What this site is

This site is my little experiment.

A place where I explore how far I can get using AI and a bit of what I like to call ā€œvibe codingā€ — building things without overthinking every detail.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s to create, discover, and enjoy the process along the way.

Some things might be useful, some might be questionable… but everything here is part of the journey.

Still figuring things out…
and honestly, that’s the fun part.

Curious by nature.
Stubborn by design.

What I'm currently building

Home Assistant & Vibe Coding

My next little experiment: turning the house into something slightly smarter… hopefully without accidentally automating myself out of existence.

The setup of Home Assistant definitely didn’t go as smoothly as I expected. Figuring out which OS to use, what hardware made sense, and getting everything running properly involved quite a bit of trial and error.

One of the first bigger hurdles was setting up HACS. That part took more time than I wanted, but it quickly became clear it was absolutely worth it. It opened the door to a lot of integrations and features that made the whole setup far more useful.

A few examples:

  • Connecting the solar panels
  • Battery information and monitoring
  • Integrating with Smappee
  • Connecting the car (still ongoing)
  • And many more things that slowly started coming together

Once that was working, I took it a step further and created an MCP connection with Codex. That honestly made life a lot easier when building dashboards and automations. Instead of endlessly searching through menus and YAML, I could focus more on experimenting, tweaking, and actually building things.

Below are a few screenshots of the dashboards I’ve created so far.

So… what about the automations?

At the moment I’ve created a couple of automations that may or may not be useful — we’re still testing that part.

I started relatively simple:

  • Notifications when the battery is fully charged
  • Reminders for upcoming trash pickup days
  • General status notifications

But the automations I’m most excited about are the ones using smart plugs.

Right now I connected the dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer to smart plugs so I can detect when they start, but more importantly when they’re finished.

This was all built using a healthy amount of vibe coding with Codex involved. It worked surprisingly well… after some tweaking and learning how to give clearer instructions.

At first, for example, I was getting a notification every five minutes telling me the dishwasher had started. Slightly less useful than intended — but luckily that got fixed pretty quickly.

Next on the list:

  • Car charging automations
  • Preheating and cooling the car
  • Smart charging notifications based on where I’m working the next day
  • Smarter routines based on calendars and presence

Still very much a work in progress… but that’s also part of the fun.

More to follow soon.
